Swartz Creek is a small city with a suburban feel outside Flint, MI. It originally was supposed to be a “New Flint,” trying to incorporate the metropolitan area into its nearby counterpart. While the area was settled in 1836 as the Miller Settlement, Swartz Creek did not get its name until 1877 when it was platted. The city is named after the Swartz Creek, a tributary of the Flint River, which runs through the area. It was incorporated as a city in December of 1959 and included parts of Gaines, Clayton, and Flint Townships. Because our community and Flint are so close, you are only a short drive away from Genesee County’s many attractions.

City Parks

Swartz Creek has three parks to take advance of for outdoor recreation. Elms and Abrams Parks offer a variety of sports fields, like soccer, baseball, basketball, and more. Enjoy an afternoon out with your family or entertain a crowd with comfortable amenities like pavilions and barbeque grills. Even in the winter, the parks are fun for sledding, and Elms Park has an ice skating pond each year. The city also has Bicentennial Park, a small downtown green space.
